Ingredients for Keto Pita Bread
This easy flatbread uses simple pantry staples. Precision matters in low carb baking, so follow these tips for best results.
Coconut Flour
Coconut flour is highly absorbent and helps create structure. For best results, always weigh it using a digital scale rather than measuring cups to ensure accuracy and prevent dryness.
Almond Flour
Super fine almond flour produces a lighter, softer flatbread. If using regular almond flour or ground almonds, increase the quantity by 1–2 tablespoons to achieve the right consistency.
Psyllium Husk Powder
Psyllium husk powder is essential for elasticity. It mimics gluten by binding the dough and creating a flexible, sturdy texture. Be sure to use finely ground powder — not whole psyllium husks. Some brands can slightly discolor bread, but this does not affect taste.
Warm Water
Warm water activates the baking powder and hydrates the flours, helping the dough come together smoothly.
Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil adds Mediterranean flavor and improves softness. It also contributes to the tender crumb.
Baking Powder
Ensure your baking powder is fresh so the flatbreads rise properly and become puffy in the oven.
Sea Salt
A pinch of salt enhances flavor and balances the richness of the almond flour and olive oil.
How to Make Keto Pita Bread
This keto flatbread is surprisingly simple to prepare. Follow these basic steps:

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine coconut flour, almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients
Add warm water and olive oil. Stir with a fork or spatula until a dough forms. Knead gently with your hands for about one minute until smooth.
Step 3: Divide the Dough
Form the dough into a ball and cut it into four equal wedges. Roll each wedge into a ball and place on a parchment-lined, upturned baking tray.
Step 4: Roll into Flatbreads
Place another sheet of parchment paper on top and roll each ball into a flatbread about ½ centimetre thick. Smooth the edges with your fingers.
Step 5: Optional Toppings
Remove the top parchment and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
Step 6: Bake
Bake in a preheated oven until golden and puffy. The breads should rise slightly and develop a light crust.
Tips for Perfect Keto Pita
Before Baking
- Use finely powdered psyllium: It should resemble wheat flour in texture.
- Chill sticky dough: If your kitchen is warm and the dough becomes sticky, refrigerate for 10 minutes.
- Roll thinly: About ½ centimetre thickness ensures proper rising and prevents gumminess.
- Oil or wet your hands: This prevents sticking when shaping.
During Baking
- Pierce large air bubbles: Use a fork or skewer if needed.
- Rotate the baking sheet: Halfway through baking for even browning.
- Broil briefly: Turn on the grill at the end for a crisp, golden top.
After Baking
- Cool before slicing: Low carb breads firm up as they cool. Cutting too early may cause crumbling.
- If tearing for dips, enjoy straight from the oven while warm.

Reheating
Reheat in the oven for about 3 minutes to restore crispness.
Why This Keto Pita Bread Works
Traditional pita relies on gluten for elasticity and structure. In this keto version, psyllium husk powder replicates that stretch, while almond and coconut flour provide balance between softness and structure. Olive oil enhances tenderness and flavor, giving the flatbread a subtle Mediterranean flair.
The result is a keto pita bread that feels authentic — chewy, soft inside, and slightly crisp outside — yet remains low carb and gluten-free.
